Getting married?
My top make-up related advice for brides!
DISCLAIMER- don’t feel like you have to do ANY of this. Weddings can be so overwhelming can’t they?? Do this, book that, look like this, don’t feature that colour, etc etc. My top advice is to do what feels good and makes you feel the happiest you can be. THERE IS NO RULEBOOK.
Look after your skin: this doesn’t have to mean expensive facials, use gentle products to cleanse, exfoliate (once a week) and moisturise with a broad spectrum SPF of at least 30. I personally reach for Cera Ve or The Ordinary products for their no-fuss approach to skincare.
Hydrate: Drink plenty of water to keep your skin plump and radiant. Aim for at least 2 litres a day. It’s boring but it really makes a difference. For a double whammy keep an eye on sensible consumption of alcohol and sugary drinks.
Diet and Sleep: Maintain a balanced diet rich in fruits and vegetables, put the fast-foods off the menu, your skin will be so grateful. Prioritise good sleep to help your skin look its best, silk pillowcases are a game changer.
Consider possible mishaps: In the lead up to the big day we primp and preen but sometimes the most simple of things don’t go to plan. MY TOP TIP is keep your diary clear in the 2 week lead up to the wedding. Here are some of the things that I’ve seen go ‘wrong’ - dental hygienist appointment lead to a gum infection, bride in agony on her wedding day. Eyebrow waxing where the wax was too hot and left a burnt patch of skin. LVL lash lift, some solution irritated the eye and lead to swelling- no make up can help with this! Facials- often the skin will purge the next week, leading to spots. Fake tan for the first time right before the wedding, the risk is to be too orange and there’s not much you can do about it. Trial a fake tan at least a month before the wedding to gauge the effect. Switching skincare routine right before the wedding- caused bumpy, sensitive skin. So…. moral of these stories is- keep it really simple and safe. ‘If it aint broke’ and all that!!
Makeup Tips for Brides
Test Your Look: Whether you hire a pro or do your own make-up, it’s a great idea to trial some ideas to get the look you are after.
Choose Long-Lasting Products: Opt for primers, long-wear or waterproof formulas to ensure your make-up stays intact throughout the day, especially if your wedding is outdoors or on a hot day.
Setting Spray: Set your make-up at each stage with a setting spray to help it last throughout the day and give a fresh appearance. It really helps the make-up to grip.
Stay True: ALWAYS stay true to what makes you feel good. Don’t follow trends unless you love them. If you wear blue mascara every day and that’s your thing then stick with it!
I hope there was something useful for you in this post, have fun planning your big day!
