Natural Make-up

Firstly, let’s think about how subjective the term ‘natural make up’ is.

I sometimes get shown pinterest boards by clients showing the looks they like, classing them as natural.  Often these photos are of looks created with a lot of make up, false lashes, contouring etc. but the colours are soft and the models are tanned, with great lighting and probably a filter too!  One person’s interpretation of a natural make up look can be totally different to someone elses.

For me, natural make up is about the skin looking fresh and the colours being flattering, not too bright and not too dark.

I like to apply make up in light layers, with good preparation to the skin so that the make up I apply will grip and last, meaning I need to use less of it to achieve the desired look.  I like freckles to show through the make up, and I cover any blemishes with a heavier formulation of foundation or concealer only where it is needed.  Whatever your colouring, a little bit of blusher can make your skin look fabulous, a soft peachy pink is flattering on most skins.

For eye make up, a wash of a neutral colour and some mascara can be enough, I like to add a pop of highlight on the inner corner of the eyes to really brighten the area.  To take to the next level, some soft eyeliner and shading on the lid adds dimension.  Peach, golds, browns, khaki greens and plum shades are flattering as they make your eyes look brighter.  I like brow to look as natural as possible by using powder to add definition where needed and then brush through with a gel to set.

Gloss is great on lips for a natural wash of colour.

Many of my brides ask for make up that isn’t heavy but they want it to last the day- this is where primers and setting sprays are crucial!  It is a myth that make up needs to be heavier to last longer, it’s much more about using the right products in the right way.

I love putting these looks together using products I have tried and tested over the years, to give you the finished make up look you have dreamed of!
